Obituary of Melissa Ann Schmitz

SCHMITZ: Melissa Ann Schmitz, beloved daughter of Wayne and Debbie Schmitz, dear sister of Chelsey Girard (Chris) and auntie to Addison, passed away suddenly, with her family and close friends by her side, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the age of 31 years young. Also left to mourn her passing are her grandmother Velma Schmitz, aunts Diane Baker (George), Carol Storie (Grant), Kim Neilsen (Andy), Marla MacGregor (Mike), uncles Clint Schmitz, Eldon Schmitz (Linda Lidster), Garnet Schmitz (Delilah), Barry Russell (Cathy Lussier), Brian Russell (Pauline), as well as numerous cousins and friends. Melissa was predeceased by her grandparents Arthur and Olive Russell, Peter Schmitz and her little sister, Leanne Schmitz. Melissa was born in Portage la Prairie on May 22, 1983. She moved with her family to Leduc, Alberta in September 1983, living there until January 1989. They moved back to Brandon to be closer to family, and soon after, Melissa had the pleasure of celebrating the arrival of her baby sister, Chelsey Dawn. Melissa attended George Fitton School and graduated from Neelin High School. She was loved and cared for by many teachers and E.A.'s throughout her school years. Melissa enjoyed many activities with her caregivers and friends. Swimming, bowling, movies and of course, eating sweets - just to name a few. Her life was enhanced with the care, support and love of her many caregivers, but in the last twenty years, Jennifer, Cheryl, Jackie and Karla were her mainstay. We are forever thankful to them and they will always remain in our hearts. A Celebration of Melissa's life was held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Sanderson officiating. Interment was held at the Brandon Cemetery, where Melissa was laid to rest with her little sister, Leanne Nicole. Donations may be made in memory of Melissa to MADD, P.O.
