Obituary of Marie Alice Denbow

DENBOW: Marie Alice Denbow (née Chudley) passed away peacefully at her residence, Dinsdale Personal Care Home, on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Marie was born in Brookdale, MB on April 23, 1930 to Percy and Alice Chudley, the eldest of five children: brothers Douglas, Richard, Claire and sister, Connie. At the age of 12, Marie started to work helping at the local telephone exchange. When she finished school at 16, she became the Chief Operator. When she was 19, she was transferred to Brandon and then to Waskada for six to seven months. When Marie was stationed in Brandon, she lived at a boarding house where she met Bill Denbow. They were married on September 5, 1952 in Brookdale. They spent a lot of time dancing at the Palladium, Sportsman's Park, Mitch's Barn Dance and other local area dance halls. They had five children, and then she went back to work as a telephone operator for the Assiniboine Hospital. She worked there until the hospital closed and she moved to a new position as a cashier in the business office at the Brandon General Hospital. She worked there for 20 years until she retired in 1990. Marie had several interests throughout the years besides dancing. She loved to knit, curl, garden and golf. All of her children and grandchildren have samples of her knitting. Marie and Bill were very active in the ANAF with shuffleboard, darts and meat draws. They also traveled to Mexico and Barbados and spent 12 winters in Texas. Marie is survived by her husband of 62 years, R.W. (Bill) Denbow, five children: Barbara (Garry) Nunns, Gary (Lil), Murray (Shannon Haithwaite), Sandra (Lyle) Wenger and Duane, eight grandchildren and seven and a half great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant, Kim Lewarne, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4A9.
