Obituary of Orest Perchaluk

PERCHALUK: May 21, 1933 - April 28, 2015. It is with great sorrow that the family of Orest Perchaluk announces his passing, surrounded by loving family, on April 28, 2015 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Orest was born in Slater, Manitoba on May, 21, 1933 to Harry and Mary Perchaluk. Orest was a people-person who loved animals and nature. He also loved his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and clearly demonstrated this in the way he related to all he came in contact with, visiting or calling those he knew who could benefit from an encouraging word. Orest experienced a colorful working career. He began at 15 working with CN Rail, hauled fish across frozen lakes, cooked in fish camps, and worked as a diamond drill miner in Flin Flon for 16 years. He was a busy man, becoming a landlord owning various properties, then bought and managed the Starlight Motel (later called the CasaBlanca Motor Inn) for many years. Orest was President of the St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Men's Club in Flin Flon and continued to participate in this and the Knights of Columbus when moving to Brandon in 1976. Orest had an active social life, enjoying curling, dancing, fishing, camping, hunting, gardening and accordion playing. Orest was a devoted family man survived by his wife, Frances of 56 years, and children: Wade (Diane) of Brandon, Cathy (Jon) Klassen of Colorado, Bonnie Perchaluk of Brandon, grandchildren: Jennilee Argue-Perchaluk of Winnipeg, Tyler Perchaluk of Brandon, Jillian Klassen of Hawaii, Isaiah and Jaclyn Klassen of Colorado, great-grandchild Xavier Myran, sister Olga Heffernan of Oshawa, and niece Elsie Black of Toronto. Pallbearers were grandchildren Jillian, Isaiah, Jennilee, and nephews Donnie Furkalo, Tobin Moroz, and Leonard Furkalo, Cross bearer was Jaclyn Klassen, Cantor was nephew Ernie Sirski. The eulogy was given by Orest's children. Prayers were held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on May 2, 2015, with Divine Liturgy held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church on May 3, 2015 with Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating. A lovely meal was prepared and served at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall by the UCWLC.
