Obituary of Mary De Roo

DE ROO: It is with great sadness that the family of Mary E. De Roo (née De Ruyck) announce her passing at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the age of 98 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Morris, in 2005. She is survived by her children, Maureen Robinson, Rick (Shannon), Terry (Nancy), Ken (Julie), daughter-in-law Kathy, sister-in-law Bernie Decosse, brother-in-law Herb Briem, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her son, Dennis and his wife Yvonne (Belot), son Laurie, son-in-law Bill Robinson, brother Rev. Fr. Gerard De Ruyck, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie (Duif), Remi (Jeanne), Raymond (Clara) and Andre (Clara). She was also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard De Roo (Alice), Irene De Roo, Martha Devloo (Maurice), Mary Van Cauwenberghe (Rene), Joseph De Roo (Lorette), Marcel Decosse and Annie Briem. Mom was a dedicated home maker most of her life. She took her greatest pleasure when she was in the company of her family and many relatives. After caring for her father Emile in her home until his passing, she ventured into the work world and was employed at Metev Woolen Mills for six years. She was a devout member of St. Augustine's Parish. She received her music education from the Ursuline Sisters at Bruxelles, Manitoba. She served as a church organist in Swan Lake for many years. Mom volunteered as musical accompanist for mass at Fairview PCH for more than thirty years, retiring just three years ago. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Neufeld as Celebrant. Cremation will follow. Urn placement will be held at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to Rideau Park Personal Care Home, 525 Victoria Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 6S9.
