Cyril Flamand

Obituary of Cyril Flamand

FLAMAND: Cyril Flamand passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. Born August 15, 1924 to Peter and Anne Flamand, the second of ten children, at the family homestead in SK, the family later relocated to Camperville, MB. There he met and married Yvonne Guiboche, and together they had a family of eight children. They lived in Camperville and Pine Creek until moving to Brandon. Cyril had many different jobs throughout his life. He tried to join the army with his older brother, Fred, in 1940 at the age of 16. His deepest regret is that Fred was taken, and he was sent home. He trapped with his father, hunted and fished. He cut pulp, and worked on the Hydro Station and Dam at Grand Rapids. After moving to Brandon, he worked at Simplot and his last job before he retired was as a night security guard at the B.M.H.C complex. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed camping, travelling and blueberry picking with his family. His true joy was his children and grandchildren. He looked forward to family get-togethers with his siblings and children. He was predeceased by his older brother Fred in 1944, in France, his parents Peter and Anne, his brothers Delphis, Jack and Philip, sisters Linda and Pauline, daughters June and Audrey, and wife Yvonne. Cyril is survived by his children Fred, Ken (Monica), April (Vince), Ron, Wayne, and Darryl; grandchildren Michael, Donna, Adrien, Adam and Destiny; and eight great grandchildren Jenna, Lucas, A.J, Aaliyah, Emma, William, Kalel, and Candace; sisters Rita Guiboche and Rose Guiboche of Camperville, and Mary Kolada (Carl) of Swan River, as well as many nieces and nephews. Cyril had a long and happy life, and his family will remember his stories and his humour. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and a private graveside service was held in Camperville on June 13, 2015. He wanted to be with his mother and siblings. He is home. "When I Am Gone... When I come to the end of my journey and I travelled my last weary mile, just forget if you can, that I ever frowned, and remember only the smile. Forget unkind words I have spoken. Remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartache, and remember I had loads of fun. Forget that I have stumbled and blundered and sometimes fell by the way. Remember I have fought some hard battles and won, ere' the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going. I would not have you sad for a day. But, in summer just gather some flowers, and remember the place that I lay. And come in the shade of evening when the sun paints the sky in the west, stand for a few moments beside me, and remember only my best." Rest In Peace
