Obituary of Darlene M. Sheppard

SHEPPARD: Darlene Margeret Sheppard (Logan), of The Pas, Manitoba was born on June 15, 1941 on the family farm just outside of Tisdale, Saskatchewan. The family then moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba later that year. Darlene spent many summer's weekends at Phantom Lake and playing softball. She graduated from Hapnot Collegiate in 1958 and attended Allan Business College in Saskatoon in 1958/59. Following Business College, Darlene worked in the Flin Flon Clinic until 1963. Darlene married Royden Walter Kent Sheppard on July 15, 1961. They had their son, Kent, in 1963. They then moved to The Pas, Manitoba in 1965 and had a daughter, Simone, in 1968. After the birth of their second child, Darlene attended hair dressing school at Keewatin Community College. She obtained her certificate but never practiced hair dressing. Instead, she went to work at CIBC in The Pas, where she worked for the next 25 years. She retired from the bank in 2001. Darlene loved reading, playing cards and travelling. She enjoyed collecting elephants and collecting rocks from her many travels. She wrote beautiful poetry and was an avid boxing fan. She also enjoyed spending parts of her summer out at Don and Char's cabin at Beaver Lake. Darlene was also a member of Rebekah Lodge #57 in, Flin Flon, Manitoba. Darlene died peacefully on June 4, 2015 with her daughter and son by her side. She is survived by son Kent (Jayne), daughter Simone (Bruce), grandchildren Rhys, Christine, Logan and Reid, sisters Lorna (Howard) Dirks and Judy (Rob) Walker, brothers Don Logan and Larry (Barb) Logan, sisters-in-law Dolores Logan and Verna Sheppard, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Darlene was predeceased by husband Royden Sheppard, father Frederick Roy Logan, mother Charlotte Mary Logan, sister Shirley Skanderberg, brother-in-law Jon Skanderberg, brother Mel Logan, sister-in-law Charlene Logan and brother-in-law Byron Sheppard. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, in Brandon, Manitoba. A gathering of family and friends will take place following the funeral at the home of Simone and Bruce Sheppard-Organ, 627-16th Street, Brandon. Honourary Pallbearers are all family and friends.
