Obituary of Anna Harder

HARDER: Anna (Niebuhr) of Brandon, MB passed away peacefully at the Valleyview Care Centre on Sunday, August 2, 2015. Her children, along with some of their spouses and children were present as she entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour. Mom was born on August 10, 1922 in the Ukraine. She was predeceased by her loving husband John in 2000, her parents, Abram and Anna Niebuhr, two brothers, Henry and David and a great grandson, Owen. Mom will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children and grandchildren: John (Louise, David, Dayna and Jordan); Linda (Dallas, Quinton and Kennedy); Susan (Henry, Johnathon, Adrianne, Jessica, Janna, Ashleigh and Jakki); Kathy (Prakash, Marissa and Jason); David (Jo Anne, Jolynn, Rebekka and Madisson) and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Helen (Frank and family), sister-in-law Mary (and family), and brother Peter (Susan and family). Mom's life was shaped by living in the Ukraine during the Second World War. Except for one brother, Mom and the rest of her family came by boat to Canada in 1948. They moved to Rutledge, MB because relatives lived close by. Mom worked at the Virden Hospital learning many skills along with learning the English language. The death of her father during the first year of their life in Canada was an unexpected hardship in this country they had come to love. Mom married her lifelong love, John, in Oak Lake, MB on June 15, 1952. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved and sacrificed for her family. Dad and Mom raised their family in Brandon in a house they built and lived in for 38 years. Although some of these years were difficult, Mom's hard work ethic benefited the family as she baked, sewed, quilted, gardened, preserved and knit many items. As her children grew older, Mom started volunteering with the Mennonite Central Committee Thrift Store. Volunteering at the store was the highlight of the week. Her legacy lives on with her commitment to family, her values and her strong faith in God. Funeral service will be held at Grace Mennonite Church, 951-10th Street, Brandon at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Interment will take place at Oak Lake Cemetery. For those so desiring, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee. www.mcccanada.ca Thank you to the staff of Valleyview Care Centre for their care for our Mom during the last four years of her life.
