Obituary of Margaret Anne Hayhurst

HAYHURST: Our beloved Margaret Anne Hayhurst, of Virden Manitoba, lost her heroic battle with cancer and died peacefully in her sleep on the evening of September 29, 2015. From an early age growing up in Winnipeg, Margaret Anne loved music, the arts, and children. She was always a kind soul, with a huge heart. The youngest girl in a family of five children, she was the darling of her parents, Albert and Hannah. Margaret enjoyed life with her sister Ella, and brothers, Donnie, Jack and Bruce. Margaret graduated from Kelvin High School in Winnipeg and went on to attend teachers college. Her first job assignment was in the tiny hamlet of Cromer, Manitoba where she taught grades 1-6 in a two-room schoolhouse and ultimately met her partner of 53 years, Howard Hayhurst. Margaret was active in the community; participating as a 4-H leader and as a member of the United Church Women. Margaret sang in the church choir and was a member of the singing group, the Naturals. She also took part in musical theatre and helped organize Christmas concerts. Margaret led the Virden Canada Day committee, and worked tirelessly as a Legion Lady. For her giving to the community was not only a responsibility, it was a passion. Margaret enjoyed music but also loved to curl in the winter and garden in the summer. She was known for keeping an amazing farm site and was awarded Best Farm Site a number of years in a row. Margaret also worked with ceramics and made many different artistic creations over the years. Margaret is survived by her husband Howard, son Trevor Hayhurst (Morgan) and their children Hudson, Elizabeth, Benjamin; son Chris Hayhurst (Kerri) and their children Halle, Kamryn; daughter Shaelan Hayhurst and her children Parker, Judge, Gage and daughter Maegan Hayhurst. A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held at St. Paul's United Church, 286 Nelson Street West, Virden, Manitoba on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Janis Campbell officiating. Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
