Obituary of Annie Lillian Pow

POW: Annie Lillian (née Poole). Annie was born on the family farm a few miles south-west of Kemnay on July 24, 1913 and passed peacefully on October 22, 2015 at the Assiniboine Centre with her family at her side. Annie had a busy 102 years and her life was filled with wonderful memories of family and friends. She was educated in Kemnay's one-room school and attended business college following high school graduation just in time for World War II to break out. Annie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in the Women's Division at #12 Commonwealth Air Training Plan through the war years. In March 1946 Annie married Jack Pow and they enjoyed 58 years together until Jack's passing. Along came two children and Annie was a stay at home mom until Ewan and Lois were old enough to tend for themselves. Annie returned to the workforce – first at Kresges and later at Doig's until her retirement. Annie was never one to sit idle and in retirement she busied herself with children, grandchildren, yard work – she loved her flowers, travel and volunteering at the Prairie Oasis Seniors Centre. Annie also loved to sew. She was a fabulous seamstress witnessed by the lovely bride's maid dresses she created and even a set of Neelin High School cheerleader uniforms in the mid-1960's. Annie was a people person and loved to visit. She took great interest in the lives of those around her. Annie lived in her own suite at Oddfellows Corner for the past 10 years and loved her time there. She was always active and enjoyed interacting with her friends on a daily basis. Always a comfort, her faith was resolute. She was a life-long member of the United Church. Annie is survived by her son Ewan Pow (Kerry) and daughter Lois Urbanovitch (Tim). She is also survived by six grandchildren Tom Urbanovitch (Selena), Travis Pow (Melissa), Scott Urbanovitch, Will Urbanovitch, Sara Bell (Bryan) and Kylee Nykoliation (Michael); nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Nancy Falconer. She was pre-deceased by her husband Jack Pow, father Fred Poole, mother Annie Poole, father-in-law James Pow, mother-in-law Agnes Pow, brothers Alf Poole, Harold Poole and Art Poole, and sisters Elizabeth Knudson and Violet Lodwick. A service celebrating Annie's life was held at the Brockie-Donovan Chapel on October 27, 2015 with Barb Jardine officiating. Eulogies were delivered by granddaughter Sara Bell and son-in-law Tim Urbanovitch. Those serving as pall bearers were Tom Urbanovitch, Travis Pow, Scott Urbanovitch, Will Urbanovitch, Bryan Bell, Greg Mowat and Shannon Enns.
