Obituary of William "Bill" James Ringland

RINGLAND: William (Bill) James, age 75, passed away suddenly on November 8, 2015. He leaves behind his wife Linda, his son Robert, his daughters Sandra (Peter) and Katherine, his granddaughter Rachel, his sisters Irene (Douglas) and Alice (George) and many nieces and nephews. Bill was born on March 3, 1940 to James and Rachel Ringland in the small town of Ninette, Manitoba. His first few years of life were spent in Ninette until the family moved to Brandon, Manitoba. While in Brandon, he joined the Army Cadets and rose to the rank of Sergeant Major, which was a proud achievement of his and one that he talked about fondly. He received his Journeyman Electrician License in 1965 and moved back to Ninette with his young family, where he was employed at the Ninette Sanatorium. While there, he enjoyed curling and coaching his son's hockey team. The family's next move was to the Ex-Military Base outside of Rivers, where he was the Maintenance Supervisor. He became a Charter Member of the Rivers Lions Club and was involved in the Lions Telethons to raise money for the Lions Eye Bank that helped the blind and visually impaired. The last move for the family was to a small acreage in the RM of Elton, outside of Brandon, a move made because of his new position as the Facility Manager for the newly built Brandon Correctional Institute. Over his years in Brandon, he also worked at Assiniboine Community College, and the Brandon Mental Health Centre before his last job landed him at the Ag Centre, where he retired as a Zone Manager for District 3 for the Province of Manitoba. A service to celebrate Bill's life was held on November 16, 2015, followed by interment at Roseville Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to The Venerable Paul Curtis, Brockie Donovan Funeral Home and to our many friends and neighbours for their thoughtful and caring support. We would also like to thank the Brandon Paramedics – Group 4 and the RCMP officers from Brandon and Carberry for your respectful care of Bill and his family at this difficult time. Donations may be made in the memory of Bill to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Heart Health Clinic," 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or a charity of your choice.
