Kathleen March

Obituary of Kathleen March

MARCH: Kathleen "Kathy" March, wife of the late Alfred March, passed away peacefully at her residence, Hillcrest Place, on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the age of 96 years. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Joss (Polly) and Rod (Shirley); grandchildren Gavin (Rose-Zan) March, Chris March, Jennifer (Jordan) Ludwig, Andrew (Sarah) March; and great grandchildren Cooper and Peyton March. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, George and Violet Sizer and her brother George. Kathleen was born October 7, 1919 at Soham, Cambridgeshire, England to George and Violet Sizer. The family later moved to Northampton where she completed her schooling. During WWII, Kathleen contributed to the war effort for her country by working in the munitions factories near Peterborough. During this time she met Alf, a Canadian soldier from the RCEME unit stationed nearby. They were married on October 30, 1943. In 1946, following the war, Kathleen left England as a war bride aboard a hospital ship bound for Canada. Traveling by train from Halifax to Winnipeg, she arrived at her new home, Manitou, MB. Kathleen managed to persevere through a difficult time of change to a completely different environment and learned to cope without the amenities to which she had been accustomed in England. She managed very well. Kathleen's faith and her attachment to the Anglican Church of Canada sustained her throughout her life. She was a long-time Sunday school teacher and an active member of the Anglican Church Women in Manitou, Winnipeg, Shilo and Brandon; always willing to help with any activities within the church. Kathy enjoyed volunteering at the BGH Thrift Shop and the time she spent with the other ladies who worked to raise funds for other various charities. Following the passing of Alf in 1970, Kathleen moved from Shilo to Winnipeg where she kept busy looking after children for a number of years. She worked a good number of years at Eaton's Polo Park and particularly enjoyed the company of her co-workers and meeting many members of the Eaton family. At age 70, Kathleen retired to Brandon and enjoyed her time being closer to her family and her grandchildren. Her strong independent character sustained her throughout her life. A private family funeral service was held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Brockie Donovan Chapel with Rt. Rev. James Njegovan officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Kathy may be made to St. Matthew's Cathedral Memorial Fund, 403-13th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4P9, or to a charity of choice. Our family would like to thank Dr. Sanjay Santdasani and the wonderful staff of Hillcrest Personal Care Home for their excellent care, concern and kindness shown to our dear Mum, and to Brockie Donovan Funeral Home for their thoughtful arrangements.
