Obituary of Emily Margaret Romanik

ROMANIK: Emily Romanik of Hillcrest Place, Brandon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 with her family at her side, at the age of 89 years. Emily was born in Brandon on October 9, 1926, the oldest of twin daughters to Laura and Theodore Simbalist. Emily was a "Brandon girl" leaving only when her husband's job had them move away for brief periods of time. Emily was a very active and devoted member at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She spent many years as a member of the church choir where her husband, Peter, was the Cantor and she was actively involved in the Ladies Club where she was a past President. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and her needlepoint. Her perogy and holopchi care packages were always greatly anticipated and much appreciated. On November 20, 1948, Emily married the love of her life, Peter, and together they shared over 65 wonderful and devoted years together raising their two children and enjoying life with each other. Emily is survived by her children Gloria (Darryl) Rumsey, Steve (Bev) Romanik, grandchildren Adam and Myles Rumsey, Mike (Robin) Romanik, Jennifer (Paul) McBeth and Jon (Sarah) Romanik. Emily was blessed with five wonderful great grandchildren — Jayden, Josh, Chloe, Cora and Georgia. Emily was predeceased by her husband Peter, parents, brothers Sylvester and Monsignor Anthony Simbalist, sisters Mary, Isabelle, Anne and Jean. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hillcrest Place for the care and compassion Mom received during her time there. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Michael Tkachuk as Celebrant, assisted by Cantor, Stella Fedeniuk. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 457-9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4A9, would be greatly appreciated.
