Obituary of Inga Edele Pickett

PICKETT: On December 18th, 2015, with great sadness, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Inga Edele Pickett (Pedersen), passed at 92 years of age. Inga was born in Brande, Denmark on July 17th, 1923, the oldest of three boys and three girls. They moved to Canada in 1927 and settled in the Alida, SK area. As a young woman, Inga moved to Elva, MB, working for several families before moving to Brandon, where she was employed at the Ritz Café. Inga met Gordon, the love of her life, in February 1946 and they were married on October 1st of that same year. They spent their wedding night dancing to a newly discovered Oscar Peterson, who was performing at the Red Caboose in the Prince Edward Hotel. They moved to Sinclair following their marriage where Gordon had purchased a blacksmith shop. There, they raised their family of seven girls. They had a good life with many happy memories of a house full of extended family and friends. Family gatherings always meant that the house was full to the rafters with laughter and good times. In 1972, they purchased their home on 3rd Street in Brandon from Gordon's sister, Ruth Goodman. It was then that Inga started working at the Assiniboine Hospital until her retirement in the late 1980's. Inga and Gordon loved to travel. Their trips took them to Cuba, Hawaii, Alaska, all over Canada, and the U.S. One last trip was with Sandra, to cross the Rockies by rail, something she had always dreamed of doing. Inga had a green thumb and could make anything grow, even in her room at Fairview. She loved to play scrabble, do jigsaw puzzles, and was especially lucky at bingo. Inga was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Gordon, grandchildren Jacquelyn Dmyterko and Derek Campbell, sons-in-law Doug Ross and Don Dmyterko, parents Thorvald and Petra Pedersen, brothers Arne, Agon, and Eric, brothers-in-law Joe Glennie, Ray Vennard and Tom Moore, nephew Alex Vennard, as well as many of Gordon's extended family. She leaves to mourn her daughters and their families: Sharon Ross, Marilyn (Don) Beltz, Linda Campbell, Valerie (William) Boyce, Sandra Dmyterko, Kim Pickett (Gordon Teed), Joanne Medd (Grant Reynolds); grandchildren Terry (Sandi) Ross, Deanna (Sean) Peters, Kevin (Jenna) Peck, Tara (Steve) Just, Shelley (Corey) Stewart, Dean Campbell, Scott Campbell, Amanda Campbell (Jason Gramlich), Alexander and Evan Boyce, Shawna (Jon) Gilbert, Tina Dmyterko, Cory (Krista) Medd, and Chelsea Medd (Lee Miller); as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Erna Moore and Mabel Glennie and sisters-in-law Eileen Petersen and Gladys Bullee, as well as several nieces and nephews. Inga has touched many lives and will always be remembered with loving memories. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 15th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332-8th Street. Funeral service will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to Central United Church, 327-8th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3X5. GOD'S FLOWER GARDEN God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He closed His arms Around you and whispered "Come with Me." Your smile is gone forever, Your hands we cannot touch, All we have are memories, Of one we loved so much. He took you to His garden, And laid you there to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He only takes the best. And when we saw you sleeping So peaceful and free from pain, We would not wish for you To suffer that again.
