Obituary of Agnes Jennie Jacobsen

JACOBSEN: Agnes Jennie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Agnes announce her passing on January 30, 2016 at the age of 96. Agnes was born on June 4, 1919 at Tait Township in the Rainy River District in Ontario. After her marriage, Fort Frances, ON was home for many years. In 1961, Agnes and her children moved to Winnipeg, MB, where she felt they would have better opportunities. In July 1969, Agnes met the man who would be the love of her life and they married on July 24, 1970. John had immigrated to Canada from Denmark in 1955, and when asked why he came to Canada, he would say that he had been looking for this special lady. In 2002, John and Agnes moved to Brandon to be closer to their daughter. In each house they lived in they cultivated beautiful gardens. They liked to square dance, lawn bowl and travel around finding new golfing adventures. When the spirit moved them they would pack up the car and go away for a few days, a favorite destination being north to Flin Flon or The Pas. Every few years they took a trip back to Denmark, and they did a bus tour of Alaska, had a Caribbean cruise, took in the lily festival in Ottawa and wintered in Arizona for a number of years. John and Agnes lived at Hobbs Manor and enjoyed the friendship of many people who also lived there. They had thirty-eight amazing years together before John passed away and life for Agnes was never quite the same. Agnes moved to Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon on June 8, 2015. She was predeceased by John in 2008 and a son Nelson in 1963. She is survived by son Gord of Gilbert, Arizona, daughters Pat of Vernon, BC and Karen (husband Don Butler) of Brandon. There are four grandchildren, Michael Josephson of San Francisco, Kristi Josephson of Surrey, Joby Bond of Burlington and Patrick O'Hara of Montreal, and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Cliff Elmwood of Winnipeg and sister-in-law, Ase Raven of Denmark. At Agnes' request there will be no funeral. She will be laid to rest with her beloved John at the Brandon Cemetery at a private family service this summer. The family would like to thank her doctors throughout the years, Dr. S. Engelbrecht, Dr. Davis, Dr. Bookatz and at Valleyview, Dr. Large, and to the staff at Valleyview Care Centre, thanks for caring for, and about, Mom while she was there.
