Obituary of Sadie Amelia Morrison

With sadness we announce the peaceful passing, February 11, 2016, of beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Sadie Amelia Morrison (nee Baldrow), 103, widow of James Daniel (Dan) Morrison (1890-1964). Sadie was born in Rossburn in 1912, the year of the Titanic. She moved to Strathclair and married Dan on Queen Elizabeth's wedding day, November 20, 1947, which was also Sadie's birthday. Sadie raised her sons in Strathclair where she enjoyed curling, lawn bowling, and Sunday School. In 1966, Sadie moved to Brandon and worked at Joe's Beacon Lunch on 9th Street and The Brandon Sun mailroom to age 85. Adventurous and energetic ("the housework can wait"), she enjoyed many trips to the west coast, east coast, Mexico, and the Arctic. She supported her sons' interests in Cruise Night and motorcycle rides. Her granddaughters cherish memories of card-playing (including in the middle of the night), porridge, and her omnipresent carrot juice. She loved auctions! Vigorously independent, she lived at 244-7th Street until age 96. Predeceased by her father, James Champion Baldrow (1867-1946), mother Tekla Agnes Baldrow (nee Cycij) (1885-1974) and six siblings, Clifford (1906-33), Grace Wanlin (1909-45), Eva Wyld (1910-86), Clarence (1914-2004), Edythe Weaver (1920-2006), and Whilamina Cumming (1921-2012). She is survived by her sister, Juanita Neighbour (b1930) of Rossburn, her sons, Clifford and Donald (Holly), and grand-daughters, Jennifer (Rick), Cheri-Ann, and Corinna (Daryl Anderson), and great-grandsons, Van and Austin. The Morrison family greatly appreciates the compassionate care provided by the third floor staff of Fairview Home; you are All special people who go above and beyond. A celebration of Sadie's life will be held this summer in Strathclair. "Love one another."
