Obituary of Donald Edgar Leech

LEECH: Donald Edgar Leech passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Don is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Gladys Leech and grandson, Drew Olson. Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife Donna, his brother Evadne "Bud", and his children Christa (Jeff), Michael (Pat), Leslie (Mark), Jonathan (Marian), Paul and David (Arlene) and his 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Don was born on September 23, 1932 in Brandon, MB. His youth was filled with many experiences including hopping a train to get to Willow Creek, hunting rabbits in the south end of Brandon to help put food on the table, being a stow away on his dad's airplane, his athletic talents as a gymnast at Gym Canna and he even participated in a circus… Later years were spent at Clear Lake with his brother, Bud, waterskiing and at the Brandon Roller Rink with friends. Don held a variety of jobs before he settled at Leech Printing (established by his father, Cec, in 1927) as employee, partner and then eventually owner. He was a consummate salesman and established strong business relationships and friendships in Brandon, S.W. Manitoba and beyond. One of Don's greatest passions was to help others. He was active in many service groups including the A.C.T., Brandon Parks and School Board, Brandon Historical Society, K-40 and the Kinsmen Club of Brandon where he served with pride as President for a period of time. Don's ultimate passion and love was for his wife, Donna, of 59 years and his family. Don and Donna built a life around the family. His work at Leech Printing, children and community activities, lake life and eventually the marriages of his children and the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren fulfilled his life greatly. His life was further enriched by the strong and long friendship he and Donna shared with many close friends. He cherished the many events they shared together. The contributions, qualities and character of Don cannot be summed up in just a few words. He was a man for others, an original thinker, a free spirit, adored and loved his wife and family. Donna and the family would like to extend their deepest thank-you's to Brockie Donovan, Central United Church, the Venerable Paul Curtis, doctors and staff at Brandon Regional Health Centre, Rick Chrest and the many past and present business acquaintances, friends and family for the cards, flowers, food and messages of sympathy. Donations in memory of Don may be made to the YMCA of Brandon, 231- 8th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3X2 or the Brandon Area Community Foundation, 'Leech Family Fund', DPO Box 22096, Brandon, MB, R7A 6Y9.
