Obituary of Edna Mae Cookson

COOKSON: Edna Mae Cookson (Armstrong) went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, May 23rd at her home at Riverheights Terrace, with her husband of 44 years, Charlie at her side. A retired elementary school teacher with the Brandon School Division, she spent her career of 36 years helping children and young people achieve. An accomplished musician, she played and taught piano, organ and trumpet. Edna lived her life in service to God and was a lifelong member of The Salvation Army in Brandon where she led the band for over 35 years. Edna is survived by husband Charlie Cookson, son Dave (Wanda) Cookson, daughter Beverleigh (Kevin) Broughton, grandchildren Lee Bater, Andrew, Ryan & Kyle Broughton, Zachary & Joshua Cookson, and great-grandson Jayden Broughton; brother Elliott Armstrong, sisters Lillian Howell & Gladys Thompson as well as many nieces and nephews. Edna is predeceased by sons Rick Reid & Brian Cookson, parents Myrtle & George Armstrong & sister Gertrude Kingdon. There will be an open visitation on Saturday, May 28th at 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 30th at The Salvation Army Citadel, 9 Princess Ave. E., at 10:30 a.m.; interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army– Brandon Citadel, 9 Princess Ave. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 1R8 or the Brandon University Foundation, "Brandon University School of Music", 270 18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 6A9, would be appreciated.
