Obituary of LeRoy Francis Guy Ramsay

RAMSAY: LeRoy Frances Guy Ramsay passed away June 15, 2016 after a lengthy illness. LeRoy was born January 9th, 1940 to John and Mabel (Hill) Ramsay on the family farm at Holmfield, Manitoba. He was a younger brother to Shirley and Wilfred. On December 2nd, 1961 he married Ferne Hodgson of Cartwright. They lived on the family farm in Holmfield for a few years, later settling in Crystal City with their four children: Christopher "Michael," (Jackee Murley) of Swan River, Karen (Larry) Isham of Mather, Sheryl (Don) Charleton of Winnipeg, and Susan (Adam) Brechmann of Winnipeg. They relocated to Swan River where he operated a business for a few years. In 1987, he moved to Brandon where he met and married Mabel (Starzyk) Berehulka on March 19th, 1988 and gained two stepchildren, Kelvin "Kelly" Berehulka of Winnipeg and Christina (Kevin) Steele of Brandon. LeRoy settled in Brandon and continued to enjoy his hunting, fishing, camping and family gathering. Christmas was always special for family and friends. He was proud of his gold, silver and bronze metals he held from the Western Canada Games from the 1970's in the Trap Shooting Events. These he proudly presented to his grandchildren for a safekeeping memory of grandpa. LeRoy drove long haul trucking for a few years but found he wanted to enjoy family more. After trucking, he worked at Zenith Paving, retiring due to health issues. He made many good friends during his time working there. LeRoy was predeceased by his parents John and Mabel Ramsay, first wife Ferne Ramsay, his sister Shirley and brother-in-law Ralph Clemis, twin great-grandsons Zane and Oliver Torfason. He is survived by his wife Mabel, his children and step children, as well as seven grandchildren: Tanya (Jesse Torfason) Ramsay, Taylor and Kyle Isham, Reid, Kate and Claire Charleton, and Brody Steele. He also leaves behind a special great-granddaughter, Addisyn Torfason. Also surviving is his brother Wilfred Ramsay and his wife Dorothy and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of LeRoy's life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, Unit 1- 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3Y 1G4.
