Obituary of Robert Thomas Knight

KNIGHT: On Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the age of 77 years, Robert Thomas Knight (Knobby) passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre with his family by his side. Robert was born on April 13, 1939, in Portage la Prairie, the only son of Alfred and Ida Emma Knight. The family eventually moved to Brandon, Manitoba where Robert completed his schooling and eventually met the love of his life, Barbara. In 1959, Robert began a 37 year career working and eventually becoming the general manager of the Westman Central Laundry at the Brandon General Hospital. On August 21, 1965, he married his best friend, Barbara Anne Cotton, and together raised their two children, Brian and Valerie. Robert opted for an early retirement, but continued to give back to the community providing volunteer services for many years to the Fairview Personal Care Home. Robert was also a 40 year continued service member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3. He loved spending time with family and friends, and was an avid sports fan who never missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game. You could always find Grandpa tapping his knee, singing along to his favourite country music songs. His big heart and contagious smile will forever live on in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his son Brian (Sherry) Knight, his daughter Valerie (John) Carson; his sister Violet Graham; his grandchildren Greg, Lamaya, Jessica (Matt), Stephanie (Ian) and Juliet; his great-grandchildren Ethan, Brooklyn, Maximus and many nieces and nephews. Robert was pre-deceased by his parents Alfred and Ida Emma Knight and sister Joan Jones. A private family Graveside Service will be held. For friends and family, a Celebration Come and Go Gathering will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, 560- 13th Street East, on Friday, July 15, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3, Building Fund, 560- 13th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7C1 or the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
