Obituary of Gladys Mabel McLaren

MCLAREN: Gladys Mabel McLaren, beloved wife of the late Harold McLaren, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Gladys was born on February 16, 1920 to Frank and Norah Suter in Kenora, Ontario. Mom lived a very fulfilled life. They farmed in the Montgomery District near Virden, Manitoba for 12 years, and then moved to Virden, where they raised their four children. They moved to locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and spent 22 years in Hamiota, where Mom worked side by side with Dad, at their McLeod's Store. They retired to Brandon and wintered for 18 years in Weslaco, Texas and travelled extensively throughout Canada, the United States and the British Isles. In 1997 they made their home in Osoyoos, British Columbia and later, Penticton, British Columbia. Many great friends were made in their travels, resulting in wonderful memories. Mom would never forget anyone's birthday or anniversary and always phoned to wish them well. Mom and Dad moved back to Brandon in 2013 and resided at Victoria Landing, where she quite enjoyed her bingo nights, entertainment and cards. She will be missed by all, as she was "One Classy Lady". Mom was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 74 years, Harold; parents Frank and Norah Suter; brother's Fred and Bert and sister Margaret Stewart. Sister-in-law's Isobel Suter and Kay McLaren; brother-in-law's Doug Stewart and Jack McLaren and grandson Mark Kachur. Gladys is survived by and will be dearly loved and sadly missed by her children: Marlene (Leighton) Kachur, Barb (Ron) Funk, Terry (Al) Deutsch and Bill (Shirley) McLaren; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff at Victoria Landing for all their kindness and love shown to Mom during her three year stay. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses and We Care staff for their passionate and loving care towards our Mom. A Celebration of Gladys' Life will be held at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre, 332-8th Street, on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A private, family interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
