Obituary of Richard 'Aubrey' Hardinge

HARDINGE: Surrounded by love, Richard Aubrey Hardinge gently passed away and went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Aubrey was born December 8, 1940 in Georgetown, Guyana. He married Arleen Marsha (née Gilkes) on December 7, 1963, in London, England. They lived in England and in Guyana before immigrating to Canada in 1976. They became Canadian citizens in the summer of 1979. Aubrey is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Pearl Faucet-Hardinge. He is survived by his wife, his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Aubrey, occasionally known and "friended" as Richard, brought his family to Brandon on February 22, 1976 during a snowy and brutally cold winter. Sponsored by his loving uncle, Albert Johnson, he immediately started work in the parts department of Binkley Motors as his children started school at Valleyview Centennial Elementary School. Over the years, Aubrey worked at CDC Home and Leisure, Wilton Ford - Mercury - Lincoln, Wilton Trucks, Kelleher Ford, White Trucks and finally MacArthur Truck and Trailer - all within his beloved adopted hometown of Brandon. Like any determined immigrant, "Dad" also built a small business in the janitorial sector; performing services for restaurants, offices and commercial shops around the city. As a retiree, he continued his business work plus spent his "spare time" running around the neighborhood clearing out driveways of snow, helping with the building of affordable homes with "Habitat for Humanity" et al., driving with his darling Marsha delivering "Meals on Wheels" and generally tending to answer "When?" and "Yeah Sure!" when called upon for favours. The family would like to thank our Calvary Temple church family, friends and all of the staff of the Brandon Regional Health Centre for their diligent care, unwavering compassion and love whilst caring for Aubrey and all of his attending family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, followed by a "Come and Go" gathering also on their premises on Tuesday, July 26th, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Aubrey may be made to a Charity of choice.
