Obituary of Jean Laco

LACO: Jean Laco passed away peacefully at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the age of 91 years. Beloved mother to Stuart (Joanna) and David and grandmother to Jon and Sara. Jean was born on January 21st, 1925 in Brandon, Manitoba to mother, Elsie Munro and father, William King Stuart. Jean grew up as an only child and always loved to go skating at the ice rink. Her father would come home late from work and find Jean skating around having the time of her life. As Jean grew up, she had a passion to work as a Nurse and she attended Nursing School and trained at Thunder Bay, Ontario at the McKellar General Hospital for 4 years. Jean moved to Winnipeg to work at the Deer Lodge Centre for 1 year. She then moved to Brandon where she got married and had two sons; Stuart and David. They had a special dog named Sandy who they loved to play with and take for long walks. While raising two young boys on her own with the help of her mother and father, Jean worked at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon as a Head Registered Nurse. Once the new part of the Brandon Regional Health Centre was built, Jean worked there until she retired at the age of 62. Jean had many pleasant memories and made many friends working at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She enjoyed the occasional curling game with friends while working at the Assiniboine Centre. After retirement, Jean volunteered to work at the Nearly New Clothing Consignment for about 10 years. She met and made many friends and enjoyed going out for coffee and get-togethers with the girls. Jean thoroughly enjoyed attending the First Presbyterian Church Services at Rideau Park and enjoyed participating in activities such as exercises and going for walks. A Celebration of Jean's Life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Dong-Ha Kim officiating. A family interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery at a later date.
