Obituary of Stephen "Steve" Lowe

LOWE: Steve. Peacefully on August 21, aged 91 years. Steve was born in Gilbert Plains, raised in Rivers and later on a farm at Merridale in the Roblin district, and after service in World War II settled in Brandon. For much of his life he worked a skilled trade as a tool and die maker, first at Pioneer Electric and then at Inventronics until his retirement in 1989. In 1954, he married Anne Rodgerson and together they raised four sons. For his family he built a house and a cabin, and for his own interest built sailboats and model steam engines, which he displayed many times at the Estevan Model Engineering show. He had a love of motorcycles that spanned his youth at Merridale until he sold his last bike at the age of 82. Interested in painting and drawing, he was a member of the Brandon Allied Arts Centre, Studio 309 on 10th Street, and was a lifetime member of the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, of which he also served on the board. Steve is survived by three sons: Al in Brandon, Brian (Buncha) in Winnipeg, and Mike (Trudy) in Calgary, two grandsons, Connor and Evan; his brother Nat (Dorothy) and sister Lisa, both in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by an infant sister Helen, brother Dave, twin brother Bill, sister Pat, son Terry in 2011 and his wife Anne in 2015. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street in Brandon on Saturday, August 27, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Cancer Services," 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3, the Canadian Diabetes Association, A1-800 Rosser Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 6N5, or the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, #2-710 Rosser Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 0K9. Steve's family would like to thank the staff at the Prairie Mountain Health Authority for their assistance in his declining years, Assiniboine Centre for his care in his last two months, and the Palliative Care Unit in his last days.
