Obituary of Frank Worsley

WORSLEY: Frank William "Gump" Worsley, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great grandfather, passed peacefully into the arms of God on Monday, August 22, 2016 with his family by his side at the age of 84. Frank was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the eldest of two sons born to Elmer and Florence Worsley on June 23, 1932. He often spoke fondly of his childhood and the times he spent hunting and fishing with his Father. After leaving school, Frank joined the Canadian Armed Forces "Black Watch" on June 24, 1952 and served until June 23, 1955 during which time he was stationed in Germany and Italy. In the summer of 1955, Frank met the love of his life, Barbara Leah Hedger; they were married on November 17, 1955. Frank rejoined the Military "Artillery" on September 9, 1955, serving with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th RCHA retiring on October 12, 1977. During his time with the Artillery, Frank was stationed in Debert, Nova Scotia; Gagetown, New Brunswick; Petawawa, Ontario and Shilo, Manitoba. Some highlights of Frank`s military career would include the years he spent playing hockey for the Artillery; a Peace Keeping tour in the Golan Heights; attending the Edinburgh Tattoo in Scotland and being stationed in Germany. After retiring from the Military, Frank and his family moved to Winnipeg and later to British Columbia where he worked for the Federal Public Service in Construction and Engineering and Canada Post until retiring on Salt Spring Island in 1997. After losing his wife of over 50 years, Frank moved to Brandon in 2008 to live with his Daughter and Son-in-Law (Cindy and Erich). He was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion, where he was a Life Member and served on the Executives both on Salt Spring Island and Brandon. Other interests were fly fishing with his Father-in-Law (Tony Hedger) in Nova Scotia, and later in Quebec with his Daughter and Son-in-Law (Corrine and Wayne) where he spent his summers on their farm helping them with haying. He loved to watch a good soccer game on TV or attend a hockey game played by his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. Frank had a very strong sense of duty to his family, his community and his country. He will always be remembered for his love of life and his infectious laugh and smile. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Leah Worsley (Hedger); Father, Elmer Worsley; Mother, Florence Worsley (Washington) and Brother, Donald Worsley.
