Obituary of Daisy Deneka

DENEKA: Daisy Deneka, beloved mother of Diana Graham, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Daisy was born on June 6, 1922 at Montmartre, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Saskatchewan and Brandon, working at the Olympia Café as a soda fountain girl during her early years. Daisy spent the majority of her life working at Commadore Bakery and Safeway. She loved to help out at Ukrainian Church functions, making cabbage rolls, perogies and selling tickets for the suppers. She loved to golf, travel - England, Hawaii, Alaska cruise, to name a few. She was quite a bowler in her time in many leagues and even bowled in Las Vegas. Daisy is lovingly remembered by her daughter Diana and husband Garry Graham of Sorrento, B.C., her sister Victoria Popescul of Winnipeg, MB, and many nieces and nephews of Brandon, Winnipeg area and Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband John Deneka in 1968, mother Mary and father Andrew Melnyk, and brother Tim Melnyk. The Funeral Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on October 12, 2016 with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating, accompanied by Cantor Stella Fedeniuk. Interment followed at Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Deborah Everett, Cyndi Solon, Greg Deneka, Terri Turner, Lori Melnyk and Jordan Melnyk. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Daisy may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Unit 3-2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7B 0M5.
