Obituary of Leonard "Len" James

JAMES: Kenneth Leonard (Len) James, June 18, 1950 - October 9, 2016. Len was born in Brandon, Manitoba, pre-deceased by his parents Violet and Ken James. He is survived by wife Gail, sons Rob and Scott (Christina), and granddaughter Megan. Sister Ellen (Jim), brothers Jim (Heather) and Bob (Kim), and sister Loretta (Wes), as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren (Karla, Angie and Dean) and their children, and many extended family members too numerous to list. Len was a man of strong moral character and beliefs. While Len's first priority was always family, he also had a strong work ethic. When not tending the family farm at Alexander, or lending a hand on the farms of family or neighbours, Len also had a variety of off-farm careers. After retiring from the family farm in 2009, Len continued to assist many family and friends with seeding and harvest so he could still be involved in his lifelong passion of farming. In addition to the latest news and stories, Len loved a good joke and never missed an opportunity to share the most recent one with anyone he came across. He often laughed as hard at his own jokes as those who listened to them. Whether at home on the farm, or at work, Len loved to gather with family and friends, and never hesitated to help a member of his family or community when the need arose. While inconceivable in other circumstances, Len would not hesitate to step away from farming in support of his family or a neighbour. After retiring, Len enjoyed wintering with Gail down at River Ranch in Texas. There they made lots of great new friends, and enjoyed many motorcycling tours as well. Service of Remembrance was held at Central United Church on October 13, 2016. The family would like to thank River's paramedics, Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, all the family and friends for their support and for being part of Len's life.
