Obituary of Charles John Badowich

BADOWICH: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Charlie, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his residence, Valleyview Care Centre, at the age of 92 years. Dad was very proud that he was born and raised in Brandon. He attended David Livingston and Earl Oxford Schools. He started selling vegetables at a very young age. In 1941, Dad joined the Canadian Army, at the age of 17 years. He was a gunner for the 110th Battery, 15th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery F Troop, B27482. Dad served overseas, where he met the love of his life, Doreen Pope. They were married on February 21, 1945 in Watford Herts, England. They returned to Canada and to Brandon and Charlie began working as an upholsterer on Rosser Avenue. They were blessed with four children; two girls: Angela and Darlene and two boys: David and Chuck. Success moved him to open Custom Furniture and Marine on 1st Street North, where the legacy of Mr. Furniture and Marine began. After several years, he built CDC Home and Leisure on 18th Street South. The initials, CDC, stood for his sons and his self- C for Charlie, D for David and C for Chuck. Dad worked his heart out; he loved his customers and treated every one of them specially. He was a true entrepreneur. During his life, after five years dedicated to his country, he was President of the Army and Navy in 1955, as well as President of the Sokol Association in 1963-1964. He was an avid member of the YMCA and loved to swim laps. In his spare time, he golfed with his buddies for 60 years at the Brandon Recreation Golf Club. He later retired and spent the winters in Palm Springs. When Mom became ill at 69 years, he was by her side until her passing in March 2012. Dad will always be remembered as a fun and life loving guy. HIS SMILE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Dad leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Angie Badowich; Darlene (Terry) Conway; David Badowich and Chuck Badowich; six grandchildren: Christie (Graham) Garden and Brent Conway; Jill Pierrepont; Travis (Tammy) Pierrepont; Rebecca and Bridgette Badowich; four great grandchildren: Wyatt and Mackenzie Garden; Ashlen and Bauer Pierrepont and special nieces Helen, Julia and Patsy. At Dad's request, a private, family service will take place at a later date. A very special thank you to the Department of Veteran's Affairs.
