Obituary of Ruth Kent

KENT: Margaret "Ruth" Kent (née Scott), beloved wife of the late Bruce Kent, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the age of 95 years. Ruth was born in 1921 on a farm in Rocanville, Saskatchewan. She received her education at the country school and completed high school through a correspondence course. Ruth graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. After graduation, Ruth moved to Vancouver with her mother. While attending nursing school, Ruth met her future husband, Bruce, who followed her to Vancouver. They were married on January 4, 1947. Ruth and Bruce returned to Brandon where she took on her first nursing position. With the birth of their son, Scott, in 1950, she retired from nursing. Ruth could still be seen later at the Brandon General Hospital where she volunteered in the Gift Shop and Inquiry for many years. Ruth and Bruce enjoyed vacationing and were very fortunate to travel extensively. Ruth was predeceased by her son Scott and her husband Bruce. She is survived by her daughter Carole (Lonny) of Red Deer, AB, granddaughter Ashley (Chris) Laturnus, great-grandsons Jaxon and Jayce of Red Deer, AB; and granddaughter Dara Mikituk of Calgary, AB. Also surviving are nieces Bev and Sheila of Vancouver, BC, Joan of Rocanville, SK, nephew Bob of Swan River, MB, and her very special friend, Marie Fulcher of Brandon. A Celebration of Ruth's Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Glenn Ball officiating. A private interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice.
