Obituary of Shirley Trollope

TROLLOPE: With great sadness the family announces the passing of Shirley Eileen Trollope on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the age of 80 years. She was born in Morden, Manitoba and was raised on the farm near Darlingford, Manitoba. Shirley later moved to Brandon to attend Ag school. She got married and started a family. Shirley lived in Medicine Hat for a few years before moving back to Brandon with her children. She started employment at the Brandon Mental Hospital as a P.N.A. where she worked for 30 years. She met Brian (Kookie) Lounsbury and fell in love and married him. After retirement from the Brandon Mental Hospital, Shirley worked as the manager of the YWCA thrift store, volunteered her time at Spruce Woods Provincial Park as camp host and was a chief spotter for Civil Air Search and Rescue Association. She worked as a civilian under the arm of The Military Search and Rescue #435 Squadron based in Winnipeg at the 17th Wing Air Base at the airport. Shirley had a great love for animals, Appollo, her dog being her favorite. Brian and Shirley moved to Rapid City in 1984 to an acreage with a riding ring, where she was proud to take on the positon of arena manager of the Rapid City Roping Club. In 1991, they moved back to Brandon settling at Brentwood Village Trailer Park. Shirley is survived by her husband, Brian (Cookie) Lounsbury, her children Brian (Sherri), Don (Colleen), grandchildren Sabrina, Dylan, Trace and Brittney, great-grandchildren Dominic and Jewliett, sister Margaret Monk, sisters-in-law Virginia Slute, Marilyn (Hanley) Gates, Irene (Allen) Nicoll, brothers-in-law Bruce (Joyce), Donald (Vicki), Edward (Dorothy), Ron (Bonnie), Evan (Janice) Lounsbury and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her parents William Richard Slute and Opal Edna (Bedford) Slute, her twin sister Sheila Svoboda and her brother Allan Slute, brothers-in-law Ken Svoboda and Marvin Monk. A Celebration of Shirley's Life took place at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Doug Neufeld officiating.
