Obituary of Anne Bessant

BESSANT: Anne Bessant of Margaret, MB passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on December 16, 2016 at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre at the age of 89 years. Anne was born October 4, 1927 to Arthur and Ella Wright at 34-8-17W in the Oakland Municipality. She grew up on the family farm in the Rounthwaite area and attended Stratherne school in her primary years, later taking correspondence courses to grade eleven. She met Wilbur Bessant in her teens and they became very good friends which continued until November 9, 1946 when they joined hearts and lives to become married in Wawanesa, MB. Their lives became joined for 70 years. In the early years, they farmed with Wilbur's dad, Jack Bessant, in the Lily Hill school district. Wilbur and Anne built their own house a ¼ mile from the home yard where they lived and farmed for 3 years. They moved to the Langvalley district in October 1949 to rent and farm Olie Dalgleishe's farm which they later purchased. Anne enjoyed quilting and sewing. She took many of her quilts, pillows, embroidery, fancy dolls and baking to the local town fairs. She won many prizes for all of her hard work which she was very proud of. When she wasn't doing her fancy work, you could find Anne out in her yard tending to her garden and beautiful flower beds. Anne and Wilbur had the privilege of going on many trips. They travelled to Vancouver, Alaska, Nashville, Gillam, Pittsburgh and Arizona to name a few. Wilbur and the family admired all of Anne's remarkable accomplishments and are grateful for the times and fond memories shared together. She will be deeply missed by her husband Wilbur, their children: Allan, Darwin (Linda), Timothy (Gayle), Pamela (Stephen) Kanderka, Pernell (Liana), Vonda (Ken) Hopcraft, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Diane and brother Cleveland. Anne was predeceased by her parents, brothers Jack and Bill, sisters Patricia, Eva, Mary and Verna, and daughter-in-law Beth. The Funeral Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on December 23, 2016 with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment followed at the Margaret Cemetery.
