Obituary of Shirley Norbury

NORBURY: After a brief illness, our mother, Shirley Norbury (Mears) passed away at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Friday, January 13, 2017. She was born in the RM of Strathclair, Manitoba on April 22, 1942 to John and Carrie Sytnyk. After moving to Brandon, she started to make a living. She met her future husband, Harold Mears, and they married in January, 1962. They were blessed with four children: James, Kelly, Carol and Leonard. Mum will lovingly be remembered by her grandchildren: Cory Hume, Cassie Mears, Rae Ann Keem, Alistair Burchert Mears, Gregory Stitt, Alexis and Shantel Mears, Lukas Mears and Carrie Jones. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Mason and Lily Hume, Ethan Stitt and Nova Mears. Also sister Sylvia Danyleko of Winnipeg and brother Jerry Sytnyk. Shirley worked the bar circuit in Brandon, working at the Crystal Hotel for over 20 years. Mum took no guff from any patron and she was quick with the whip - they took her actions with little or no response. Shirley was predeceased by her parents John and Carrie Sytnyk; husband Harold; daughter Carol and grandchild Kristopher Jones and husband Keith Norbury. The family would like to thank Rideau Park Personal Care Home for taking care of Mum. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
