Obituary of Sharlyne Jones

JONES: Sharlyne Mildred Jones (née Rourke). On Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, our family said goodbye to our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Sharlyne was born on May 13, 1928 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Brandon in 1942. Mom attended school at Earl Oxford, Brandon Collegiate, and St. Michael's Academy. Before she married, Mom worked for Wright and Whiteman's Jeweller's. She then raised a family of six children with the help of her mom before re-entering the workforce where she worked in retail for a number of years. Mom enjoyed working for Reesor's Jewellery for 21 years and fondly recalled many happy times with the "Reesor Girls." She retired from working in 1993 to enjoy her family. Mom could always be counted on to visit and catch up with her many friends. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their many accomplishments. She could always be counted on for a word of encouragement and a proud smile at the many birthday parties, graduations, weddings or even the next volleyball game. Mom always remembered everyone's birthdays and anniversaries. She always talked about how lucky she was to have so many family close to her and was the centre of any family get-together. Mom loved her visits up at Clear Lake, Ninette, Saskatoon and Cold Lake. She remained an active life-long member of First Baptist Church and served on many committees over the years and was also on the Board of Directors of Hobbs Manor. She was an important member of the Joy Fellowship group and maintained many valuable friendships. Over the years she enjoyed Friday night bowling in the Baptist Bowling League, as well as playing cards and games with her friends at Hobbs Manor. She was always the first one to offer up her home-baked goodies or to lend a hand at a church function or a gathering at Hobbs. Her grandchildren will miss the chocolate chip cookies, but will have many recipes to cherish. She especially loved visiting her children and grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. Mom had a love of animals and was very fond of her many grand-puppies and kitties. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her favourite television shows. Sharlyne was predeceased by her parents Orme and Clara Rourke of Brandon; brother William Rourke of Cold Lake, AB; daughter-in-law Lynne Jones of Brandon; and former husband and friend Cliff Jones of Regina, SK. Sharlyne leaves to mourn her passing, sister-in-law Shirley Rourke of Cold Lake, AB; her children, Dennis (Sheila), Donna Anderson (Vern), Brenda McKenzie (Don), Bob (Dona), Terry Simpson (Ken), and Pat Stoddard. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Tanis), Chris, David, Jessica (Richard), Jamie (Victor), Matthew, Kymberly, Adam, Daniel (Jaimie), Heather (Josh), Kendra, Tyler and Linzi and great-grandchildren Jordan, Cole, Brooklyne, Bailey, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many dear friends who will miss her everyday. A sincere thank you goes out to all the Home Care staff who took special care of our Mom. We would also like to thank the staff of A2 for their care and support. A very special thank you goes out to Dr. Edward for taking such good care of Mom throughout the years. A Celebration of Sharlyne's Life will be held at The First Baptist Church, 3881 Park Avenue, on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Orton Anderson and Rev. Paul Stade officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the service.
