Obituary of Doreen Elizabeth Whyte

WHYTE: Doreen Elizabeth (March 29, 1923 - February 22, 2017). Doreen Elizabeth (Shurvell) Whyte, passed away peacefully, February 22, 2017 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 93. She is lovingly remembered by; daughter Diane (Don) Marriott, daughter-in-law Dianne (Kerry) Konoski-Whyte; grandchildren Lisa (Perry) Russell, Bryan (Michelle) Marriott, Logan (Ashley) Whyte and Bailey Whyte; and great-grandchildren Caelan Russell, Kendall and Nolan Marriott; her sister Olive; her sisters-in-law Marcia, Norma and Alice as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Annie Shurvell, her husband Bruce, and her son Greg; her brothers Terry, Wes, Cliff, Art, Murray, William, Earle, Lloyd, Ken; her brothers-in-law Tom Thorkelson, Wilf McIntosh and Lindsay Whyte; her sisters-in-law Merle, Mayme, Helen, Betty, Denise, Beatrice McIntosh, Agnes Whyte, Alice Studer and Joan Edwards. Mom was born in the RM of Miniota in 1923. She spoke often of her childhood and the times spent with her many siblings. Mom and Dad were married August 10, 1942 in Isabella. They considered themselves "a team" as they were married 52 years and did everything together; travelling, entertaining and building their cabin at Thomas Lake. After retirement, they spent several years wintering in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed new friendships and adventures. She was especially fond of cards, gardening and playing board games with her great-grandchildren. It was tough to beat her at a game of Tile Rummy. Mom cherished each of us and was so very proud of her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren's many accomplishments. We have shared many treasured family moments with Mom over the years. It was a gift to have had these special times together and for this we are forever grateful. The family would like to thank Dr. Heibesh, the Victoria Landing staff, the Brandon Regional Health Centre and Assiniboine Centre staff for their care and compassion. According to Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at a later date. If friends so desire, they may make a donation in Doreen's memory to the Sun Fund for Kids, 800 McTavish Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 7L4.
