Obituary of Esther Middleton

MIDDLETON: Esther (Loeppky) August 1, 1918 - February 28, 2017, passed away peacefully at Dinsdale Personal Care Home with granddaughter Shelley by her side. Mom was the sixth of ten children. She was born on the family farm near Secertan, SK. As was the norm, she started working as a mother's helper at age 16. She eventually ended up in Broadview, SK with five of her siblings. It was there she met and married Bruce Middleton in 1940. All three of her children were born in Broadview. We moved to Percy Street in Brandon, MB in 1953. Unfortunately, Mom was widowed in 1955 and thus, life changed. Mom found employment at BMHC in March 1956 as a Cook 1. She completed training at the University of Guelph and with a lot of perseverance and hard work, ended up as a Food Supervisor before retiring in 1984. Mom was a very hard worker. It wasn't easy, but she managed to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. She was a most excellent cook. There are people who would walk over broken glass for a piece of her pumpkin pie! Mom was active in Central United Church. After she retired, she took up bowling, swimming and cards. While she was able, she helped deliver Meals-On-Wheels. She was an avid reader and loved to go walking. Even using her walker, she could easily out distance most people! She also liked to travel and took many trips, both with her family and with her sisters. Mom was predeceased by husband Bruce, grandson Darren and siblings Laura, Ed, Erna, Art, Alfred, Jean, Norman and Margaret. She is survived by son Doug (Annastasia) of Oshawa and children Dean (Debbie), Colleen (Donald). Daughter Carol (Rick) Jones of Brandon and children Mark (Christine), Shelley (Curtis) Keber, Penni Jones (Mike Mann). Son Ricky (Kay) of Waterloo and children Rebecca (Christian), Sandy, Riki-Kay (Chris). Also surviving are eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Gordon Loeppky (Diane). The family thanks the staff at Dinsdale for the wonderful care they gave her during her time there. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Esther may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or to a charity of choice. "I am now with those I loved, awaiting those I love"
