Jill, Bill and Kent,
Your Mom was friendly, kind and spirited and always made me feel welcome at your home or at the store and gallery. She was the only person I knew with her own kiln and who else would have had such great old bones in an art gallery. Bill, I think it was Mary's influence that had you and I attend a mural painting workshop at the Brandon Art Gallery one day. We were lucky to know her.

Bill, Jill and Kent: As a kid, I thought Mary was a unique kind of mom. The thoughts and feelings she expressed when I was around were not like anyone else's, and so she helped me realize that its Ok to go my own way at a very early age. The first time I climbed the stairs in the store to check out Staircase Canadiana, I was stunned! Again, an example for me of doing what makes you happy. God bless Mary.

What a wonderful couple George and Mary were. They left an indelible mark on Brandon. I am honoured to have known them and to have witnessed and learned from their talents, grace, energy and generosity. Mary had a special gift for making other feel like they were very important to her, and conversing with a graceful cadence and phrasing that made her contributions to an interaction memorable. Our condolences to the Gooden family. Mary always spoke of 16th Street as a very special place and we were fortunate to be part of that artistic community. Mrs. Gooden was especially supportive of my collaborations with her neighbor Kady Macdonld Denton. Her enthusiasm and encouragement was very much appreciated. Our lives were made richer by knowing Mary and George Gooden.

Mary and George were a powerful "team" who played a significant role in the weaving of the tapestry of Brandon. Mary was a classy gal who infused the art community with her vision and creativity. Her support and encouragement for local artists set the stage for what has evolved into the vibrant art community we now enjoy. We will always remember her fondly. We extend our sympathies to the Goodens. From the family of Len Sandeman

We were blessed to live "next door" to the Goodens for 14 years. An inspiring couple, they were both kind and generous. We think of them each day when we admire a plate or bowl that Mary's capable hands threw.
Kent, Jill, Bill and families- we grieve your loss and we send our love.

Condolences to the family. It was an honour to be a part of Mary's RHT family. She was always so classy and elegant. She showed us all what "perfect manners" were. One of the most kind and gracious people I have ever known.

Dear Gooden's family,
I am saddened of the news of the passing of Mrs. Gooden. Such an amazing woman who brought cheer to everyone. I'm proud to have been a part of her other family, the family of Goodens' Ski and Mens Shop staff. The Goodens had such a positive influence on the lives of so may staff and treated us as their family. The lessons and work ethic bestowed in me by Mrs. G and Mr. GKG are a direct refection on how I run my own company today. I have fond memories of Mary positively influencing myself and other young minds and educating us on the fine arts. Still to this day, I proudly display her pottery and art from Goodens in my home and office in Alberta. Staircase Canadiana and "Goodens" were and will always be an integral part of Westman's history. You will be missed. God bless.

My deepest sympathy to all for the loss of your mother. Mary was so gracious and I loved talking about art with her and visiting Canadiana Staircase. I was one of the artists who took up residence, Studio 910 after the building was sold. The contribution of George and Mary is a lasting legacy for the entire Brandon community. May your memories bring you comfort.

Dear Kent, Jill, Bill, and Families: I was deeply saddened to learn of Mary's passing on April 16, her 95th Birthday. My fond memories of your dear Mom go back to the days of our youth when we were all active in the YMCA! After moving away from Brandon in my early adult years, whenever I returned I would make a point of stopping in to Gooden's Men's Shop at 908 Rosser Avenue, first to say 'Hello' to George, and then going upstairs to see Mary and her wonderful pottery! She always seemed to take a genuine interest in what I was doing with my life, and I found that so special! I am glad to have seen Mary again in recent years, both in Banff and when she lived at Riverheights Terrace. May each of your memories of Mary feel like a small patch of sunlight: warming your days, soothing your hearts, and giving you peace. In sympathy and friendship, Donna
