Obituary of Harold Baird

Harold Munro Baird It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Baird announces his passing on April 30, 2017, at Brandon Hospital with his family by his side. Harold was born November 2, 1931, in Moncton Hospital, N.B. His family was Dr. Harold Baird and Jean Baird of Chipman, N.B. Harold loved Eastern Canada. He attended schools in Chipman, Fredericton Elementary and Central Collegiate in Regina. Harold spent 15 years in the military stationed with R.C.H.A. at Base Shilo, M.B. and Oromocto, N.B. Harold's meteorological work took him to Center Island in Toronto, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Tracadie, N.B and the Canadian Arctic. Harold joined Investors (Brandon Region) where he enjoyed the staff and his service to clients. He had many clients who depended on him and often went the extra mile to take care of them. Harold was an adventurous sailor. He enjoyed sailing from a young age on the St. John River, N.B. He joined the Pelican Yacht Club in Ninette, M.B. and served on the board to establish a sailing venue for Westman residents. He volunteered many hours for Canada Games and Able Sail. His love for sailing took him on Mediterranean cruises and deliveries of Beneteau Craft from Toulon, France to Mediterranean ports and a delivery from North Carolina to the British Virgin Isles. He and Winnie crewed on a large craft in the Antigua Race week. Harold's greatest enjoyment was his family. They shared memories of having horses at the car barns, of Sunday drives and trips to the Maritimes. He shared his love of sailing with his daughters and grandchildren. He encouraged their love of nature, sports and travel. His great grandchildren had a special place in his heart. Harold felt most at home at his cottage on Pelican Lake, watching the boats on the water and tending to his geraniums. He was a complex man of passion and compassion.
