Lisa Simpson

Obituary of Lisa Dawn Simpson

SIMPSON: Lisa Dawn Simpson (nee Moffat) passed away peacefully at her home at Campbell's Trailer Court, Brandon, Manitoba, on Thursday, May 11th, 2017 at the young age of 38 years. Lisa was born to Linda and Hugh Moffat on December 12th, 1978 in Brandon, MB. She went to school at Riverview School until Grade Six and lived on Empress Bay with her Mom, Dad and little brother Michael who was born September 15th, 1986. When Lisa was 3 ½ years old, she had one kidney removed. When Michael was four years old, the Moffat family moved to an acreage on Veteran's Way and Lisa continued her schooling at Douglas, Manitoba. Her Dad worked at the Livestock Yards and Lisa would often go down with him every weekend when he would feed the cattle. Her Dad bought her first horse, a 12 year old Welsh mare, which she named Tony, as mom had named her pony when she was a kid. Lisa use to walk Tony all over the yard, sometimes she would ride her. Lisa went to Elton Collegiate for high school. She made friends quickly especially with Shelley, Jerry, Heather, Theresa - and anyone who liked horses was great. Lisa would rather talk about animals instead of boys! Her dad wanted to surprise Lisa one day and he ended up bringing a two year old Welsh mare home with him one day from work. Lisa was just tickled pink and from then on, if you wanted to know where Lisa was, just look out in the pasture and there she was with Misty. Of course, she was quite surprised and happy when Misty had her first colt. Lisa lovingly looked after that little colt even though Misty was quite a stern mother. Lisa graduated from Elton Collegiate and that fall started taking Childhood Education at ACC. She only completed one year as she found it just wasn't quite what she wanted. Lisa loved children, but she wanted to be around horses and animals. She seriously considered becoming a vet but was quite discouraged when she found out the cost involved. Our neighbor, John Rempel, had a PMU farm and that was right up Lisa's alley. She worked for John and she loved it. She was surrounded by horses and learned a lot from John. He was her mentor. John got her in to riding, teaching her how to look after her horse medically and then she was so happy when she bought her horses from him. She was tickled pink! So, when the PMU had finished for John, Lisa continued with him on learning the knowledge etc. of horses. Lisa was so good with animals from sheep, chickens, roosters, hens, rabbits, kittens and puppies. You name it! Lisa, like her Mom, loved when baby animals were born on the farm in the spring. Lisa started working at Maple Leaf and after a while she happened to notice someone she thought was quite cute and handsome (Loren) and asked him out for coffee and the rest was history! On August 2nd, 2008 Lisa and Loren were married. In the fall of that year, Lisa went on dialysis. Loren adjusted really well, taking Lisa to dialysis three times per week, for four hours each time. In July 2012, Lisa got her call for a kidney in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, the kidney did not function as hoped and it weakened Lisa's immunity system. She took one day at a time, always hoping that things were going to be better as every day came. Lisa didn't take bad news like her Mom did, and it was Lisa who would say to her Mom that "she was okay and that she was feeling okay." In December 2016, Lisa had the worst bout of sepsis in her blood which landed her into ICU for three weeks. We just about lost her then. Lisa came home in a wheelchair and was fighting to get her strength back right up until her passing. She fought for her life as she had a nephew, niece and all of her cockatiels, rabbits and her little Ricco, depending on her. Lisa fought very hard to stay healthy and tried to build her strength up along with her loving husband, Loren, who tried his best to do anything to help Lisa along. Everybody would chip in and help Loren, taking Lisa to dialysis while he was at work, taking her to doctors' appointments and just visiting her. Lisa loved to add her name on to petitions and often gave donations for animal rights. Her latest concern was for the captivity of the dolphins in the aquariums. She just didn't believe that the dolphins should be in captivity, but rather that they should be out in the ocean being free with their babies. Loren and Lisa made such a beautiful couple. They shared a lot in common and Lisa cherished Loren with all her heart and it showed. Loren was such a dedicated husband to Lisa, doing everything possible he could do for her. Lisa will be sadly missed by not just her relatives, but from their many friends and neighbours who would gather at Lisa and Loren's trailer to have a bonfire. They enjoyed entertaining that way, roasting hotdogs, marshmallows, etc. They always had a fun time. Lisa was predeceased by her mother-in-law Caroline, her Uncle Keith, her Auntie Pat and her still-born brother, Robbie. Remembering Lisa forever is her ever loving husband of nine years, Loren; step-daughter Misty, step-son Kyler, her loving parents Linda and Hugh, her brother Michael, sister-in-law Milagro, her nephew Nathan, her little niece Emma, grandparents Ruby and Jim Johnston, her two special aunts, Elaine and Kay, Auntie Sharon, Laverne, Lavonne. She had many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, cousins and a wealth of wonderful friends. A Celebration of Lisa's life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Thursday, May 18th, 2017. Interment was held at the Killarney Cemetery.
