Obituary of Polly Merckx

MMERCKX: Polly Merckx of Brandon, beloved wife of Florman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Valleyview Care Centre at the age of 98 years. Polly was born in Montmartre, Saskatchewan, daughter of Annie and Philip Procyk. The eldest of eight children, she was raised on the farm and educated in Montmartre. In 1940, she moved to Boissevain during harvest time, to help out with domestic chores. That fall, she met Florman Merckx at a school dance and within three years, they were married. They had three sons, who have predeceased her; two died in infancy. Polly and Florman moved to Brandon in 1965, however, they continued to farm in Boissevain until the mid- 1980's; eventually retiring in Brandon. Polly loved her garden and was very active in her church, mainly with the C.W.L, where she was proud of her life membership. She was also a very active volunteer for her community. Her passion was for playing bridge and various card games and she also enjoyed travelling. In addition to these, she also enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren and great grandchildren. Polly was predeceased by her son, Clarence, in 1980 and by her two infant sons. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Lisa (Brian) of Brandon, MB; Dean (Sherrie) of Beresford, MB; Todd (Heather) of Boissevain, MB and by seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three sisters: Sophie, Elaine and Rosie; sister in law Dorothy and as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327- 4th Street, on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Savarimuthu as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Catholic School Board, 327- 4th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3H1.
