Obituary of Steve Mychasiw

MYCHASIW: It is with great sadness that the family of Steve Mychasiw announces his passing on Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at Fairview Personal Care Home at the age of 88 years. Steve was born on December 18th, 1928 in Olha, Manitoba. He was one of five children born to Ann (Zegalski) and Peter Mychasiw. They operated a family farm and Steve relinquished his schooling early so that his siblings could continue their education. When older, he operated a cattle and grain farm with his brother, Walter. During the winter months, Steve worked for various companies such as Saskatchewan Power, Manitoba Telephone, Manitoba Pool, as well as some construction work. He travelled to places where work was available. In 1973, Steve met and married his wife, Millicent. He not only gained a wife but also a step-daughter, Terry (Theresa). Eventually he gained a son-in-law, Stan Cwiertnia and two granddaughters: Karlyn (Chad) and Leanne. He cherished and loved them and certainly was a natural grandparent. Steve enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards like King Pedro, duck hunting, picking mushrooms and gardening. They loved to entertain family and friends and travelled to Florida, Mexico and Las Vegas. Steve and Millie moved to Brandon from Rossburn in 1985. They immersed themselves into the city life and were near their granddaughters to see them grow up. In 2001, they moved again into a condo, Village Green, where they enjoyed the activities and people that lived there. Due to health issues, Steve moved into Fairview Personal Care Home in June of 2016. Here, he was reunited with his wife. We want to thank family and friends for their support throughout these sad days. A big thank you to the staff at Fairview Personal Care Home for their kindness and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church, on Friday, July 14th, 2017 with Father Kelly Wilson as Celebrant; interment was at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Steve may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com. "Vichnaya Pam 'yat."
