Obituary of Angus McLeod

McLEOD: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Angus D. McLeod on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care Floor at the age of 97 years; after a battle with cancer. Angus was born in Mather, Manitoba on January 12, 1920. Angus was a sickly baby but grew to be a strong man both in body and character. At the age of 13, Angus' dad passed away leaving him to take over the farm with his mother and 7 year old brother Jack. On October 2, 1938, Angus joined the United Church in Mather, Manitoba. He then joined Knox United Church in Brandon, serving on the board. He later transferred to Central United Church where he also served on the board. In 1943, he started working for the United Grain Growers Co. in Killarney. Angus transferred to Cranmer Siding between Goodlands and Waskada before Hydro reached that part of the country. In 1945, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Archibald of Cartwright. Their two sons were born while living in Cranmer Siding. Wayne was born in Morden, Manitoba and Keith in the old hospital in Deloraine, Manitoba. Many long lasting friendships were made in that district of wonderful people. Angus was a Commissioner riding with Hugh Wallace in his bombardier, leasing land for the oil companies. In 1956, the McLeod family moved to Brandon to build and sell 'Lok A Blocks'. Angus' brother Bruce invented these to build buildings and retaining walls. After having a delivery business, years later he went into building stock trailers with his brother, Jack, called Trail King. Trail King was later sold to a valued employed, Drew Mills, which is now called MILLCoSTEEL. Angus was an avid curler, golfer and snowmobiler. As a member of the Brandon Curling Club he was proud of his eight ender. He was also a member of the Wasagaming Golf Course he got a hole in one on September 18, 1992 on the third hole. He also belonged to the Brandon Snow Goers Club who rode to collect money for the Heart Fund. He was also was an avid supporter of the Brandon Wheat Kings Hockey Club. Angus worked hard collecting money for them when they were in financial difficulty. A very proud moment for Angus was when he received the 50th pin from the Red Cross for donating blood. Angus was predeceased by his parents; step father; son Keith; brothers : Bruce and his wife Evelyn; Fraser; sister-in-law Dona and best friend Donald Murray. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 72 years, Dorothy; son Wayne and wife Marion and their two children: Robyn Denbow and her husband Rick and their children Reese and Ryan; Tom and his wife Tara-lynn and their children Olivia and Kara. Daughter-in-law Brenda McLeod and her son Christopher and his wife Jodi and their children Gemma and Angus Keith; daughter Trisha and her husband Geoff Paterson and their daughters Rylee and Easton and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Angus loved to garden and give away the fruits of his labour. He loved his sons with passion and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
