Keith Moffat

Obituary of Keith Moffat

MOFFAT: With sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of (James) Keith Moffat on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Keith was born into the Morgan family in the R.M. of Turtle Mountain on July 14, 1931. He was one of the youngest children in a family of 12. At the age of four, Keith became the adopted son of Robson and Mary Moffat, and went to live on their farm west of Brandon. Dad always had wonderful stories of growing up on the farm. His grandchildren were particularly impressed to hear about how he rode his own horse to school at a one room schoolhouse. Keith attended high school in Brandon, and chose to return to the farm to work afterwards. As a teenager, Keith was able to reconnect with many siblings and members of his birth family, with the support of his adoptive parents. Over the years, he was able to maintain relationships with members of both families, which meant a lot to him. Keith was fortunate to meet the love of his life and best friend, Mona, at a dance in Brandon. They married in 1968 and enjoyed 46 very happy years together. Keith and Mona had three children and farmed for a number of years before relocating to Brandon in 1985. Keith was involved in the church for many years, and sang in the choir at First Baptist for a time. He was a lifelong reader, with a particular interest in all types of history and a very interesting conversationalist and storyteller. Hockey Night in Canada was always a staple in our house. Keith was predeceased by his wife Mona in 2014. He is survived by his children: Lesley (Rob); Lorie (Marcel) and Kyle; as well as five grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 3881 Park Avenue, on Tuesday, August 8th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Keith may be made to the First Baptist Memorial Fund, 3881 Park Ave., Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 3Y6.
