Obituary of Catharina (Rina) Louw

LOUW: Catharina (Rina) Louw's prayers have been answered and she went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the age of 91. Rina is predeceased by her husband Phillip, her daughter Suedrine, and all her siblings. Mourning the absence of her passing are her children: Phillip and Eben in South Africa; her son-in-law (Theo) and daughters-in-law (Ina and Ina) and all her grandchildren in Canada, England, New Zealand and South Africa. Rina was born in Mutare, Zimbabwe on July 21, 1926 and grew up in the family boarding house in Salisbury (now Harare), the capital of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), along with her brother and sister. She was the middle child in the family and the last surviving member of her generation. On September 7, 1946 Rina married Phillip Louw and they started a life together that lasted until Phillip's passing in 1999. They moved around Zimbabwe from a farm outside of Harare to Bulawayo. In 1999, they moved to South Africa to be closer to their children. Rina worked in the bank in Zimbabwe and as a farmer's wife with thousands of chickens and a large garden. She has been an integral part of the Fourie family, moving with them to Canada in 2003, and putting down roots in the South African and Brandon community at large. Ouma was a surrogate grandmother, mother and great friend to every life that crossed her path. Rina and her family were Reformed Church members where Rina was an active parishioner and volunteer. Rina was a shining example of a child of God in how she served the Lord in everything she did. The family appreciates the support and care Ouma received from the staff at Brandon Regional Health Centre over the last week of her life and in addition to her care companions from HomeCare. A Celebration of Rina's Life will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 1509 Victoria Ave, on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
