Obituary of Joleen Saville

SAVILLE: Joleen Carol. The world lost a determined and passionate young woman on August 3, 2017. Joleen Carol Saville, beloved daughter of Bill and Carol and sister to Keegan, Kassidy and John was born on June 10, 1998. Joleen was comfortable in her elementary school of Riverview from day one after years of being "show and tell" for her big brothers. During her time at Riverview Joleen enjoyed singing, swimming, playing soccer, acting and excelled at the sport of cup stacking. Joleen completed junior high school at St. Augustine's where she found her love of volleyball and playing the clarinet. Joleen continued to be active in band and sports at École Neelin Secondary High School, playing soccer and volleyball, competing in track and field and cross country. Joleen's superb organizational skills were put to use through her involvement with a number of Spartan volleyball and basketball tournaments. Joleen was part of many school clubs, including the eco club and co-editing her grade 12 yearbook. Joleen graduated in June 2016. Joleen came into her own at Neelin, building a strong community of not only peers but teachers as well. To Joleen, being a Spartan was so much more than wearing green. Joleen loved travel and adventure and from the early age of 14 worked hard to achieve her goals. From being Louie the Lightning bug's sidekick to hostessing and serving, Joleen loved interacting with people. Through Joleen's strong work ethic she was able to save enough money to participate in school trips to Italy in grade 10 and Spain in grade 12. In preparation for university Joleen held multiple jobs, most recently being a member of the team at Echo for 3 years, beer cart girl at Sunnyside Golf Course, and a CCA at Minnedosa Community Child Care Cooperative. Joleen also had a strong commitment to volunteering in her community. Being exposed to people making a difference from such a young age helped Joleen to grow and develop her own sense of volunteerism. Joleen started volunteering while attending Knox United Church and continued throughout her school years. The two causes most dear to Joleen were Huntington Disease and Manitoba SwimAbility. Joleen was a member of the Huntington Society volunteer crew from a young age, participating in all chapter activities, playing a large role in the three Bert's Runs 4 Huntington Disease. Joleen's running endurance increased over the years from 10 kilometres in year 1 to 50 kilometers in year 2 to being by Bert's side and talking his ear off in year 3. Joleen developed a passion for working with children with disabilities through her involvement with SwimAbility. Starting as a volunteer commitment of one hour a week with two amazing kids this experience grew to be much more. Joleen took on the role of coordinator of the Brandon Chapter and believed this work made a difference in instilling confidence in and for disabled children. Joleen had a large and diverse circle of friends, especially those from Neelin and Echo. She spent many happy hours shopping, going to movies, attending youth retreats and hanging out. Jo and her friends enjoyed drinking wine and coffee, golfing, fishing, camping, sightseeing and taking selfies. Even though she made them listen to country music, Joleen and her friends supported each other through long hours of studying and early morning work shifts. Joleen's friends could count on her to listen and just be there. Joleen loved spending time with all her Aunts, Uncles and Cousins; camping trips to Spruce Woods and Souris, picnics and ball games in the park, Thanksgiving hikes, Saville Christmas Day skates and McNabb Family Christmas, Easter egg decorating and cracking, helping her Aunts to cook and bake to feed their large families. Joleen treasured many traditions and times with her parents and brothers; pumpkin carving and raking leaves, playing basketball in the driveway, cheering her brothers on in their sports, skating, setting up the Nativity scene, organizing the Christmas gift draw and placing the angel on top of the Christmas tree. Joleen developed her love of travel and adventure through trips with her family, her first being to Niagara Falls when she was just 2 years old. Joleen had many camping excursions, particularly Minnedosa and Wellman Lake but a trip to Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta was a highlight for the whole family. Joleen will be remembered for her love of life, her beaming smile and infectious laughter, her ability to take control of the room and her sass. Joleen lived her life with tenacity in all she did and her smile lit up a room. Joleen will be missed by Bill, Carol, Keegan, Kassidy, John, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins big and small, Cole, and her many friends.
