Obituary of Elizabeth Rachuk

RACHUK (Tostiuk), Elizabeth (Betty): With family by her side, Elizabeth, aged 98 years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Fairview Home in Brandon, MB. The angels peacefully carried Mom to her heavenly home where she is now reunited with other family members. She was born in Fort William (Thunder Bay), ON on April 25, 1919 and at an early age was adopted by a family and moved to Grandview, MB. In later years, she often spoke of her younger sister that she was never able to be reunited with. She married Peter Rachuk when she was a young lady and they relocated to Flin Flon, MB. She always felt blessed to have her own family of five children. The family later moved to Snow Lake, MB. After the sudden passing of her husband Peter, she resided in Snow Lake and worked for HBM&S Co. until her retirement. She later lived in The Pas, Brandon and eventually moved to Fairview Home in 1998. She was no longer able to live safely and comfortably at home as she endured a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was always a gentle and friendly person with a good sense of humour. She never liked to be alone and enjoyed being with family, camping, walking, dancing, bingo, music, and flowers. She was a hard worker (often quietly whistling as she worked), a great housekeeper and cook and everyone loved her special Ukrainian and Canadian dishes. Her love of good food was enjoyed to her last days. She took pride in her hair and makeup as her appearance was always important to her. She was a loving Mom. She is survived by: her daughters Shirley Lindgren, Doreen Chutskoff, Dallas Green and daughter-in-law Faye Rachuk, 11 grandchildren: Sheldon, Dawn, Scott, Deidre, Wade, Wendy, Carey, Wally, Jody, Gillian and Brendan, 18 (4 step) great-grandchildren, and 8 (2 step) great-great grandchildren, Deidre's father Willie Bilyk, and Brendan's father Mel Green. She was predeceased by: her husband Peter in 1965, daughter Dianne Bilyk and son-in-law Allen Lindgren in 1995, son Ernie in 2006, Gillian's father Raymond Barton in 2008 and son-in-law Walter Chutskoff in 2011. The family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff on the 4th Floor of Fairview Home who treated her kindly and respectfully and cared for her for the past 19 years. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Grandview where she will be laid to rest with her husband Peter. Every tear of sadness also brings with it a wonderful memory that makes us smile.
