Obituary of Sophie Rusinowicz

RUSINOWICZ: Sophie Rusinowicz passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the age of 94 years. Sophie was born on July 26, 1923 in Tarnow, Poland. Sophie was one of five children born to Stanley and Victoria Cwik. After the war, Sophie immigrated to Canada, coming through the port of Halifax in October of 1947. She made her way by train to Manitoba, and stopped in Brandon to begin work at the Brandon Mental Hospital. In Brandon, she met Ignacy Rusinowicz and they were married on June 24, 1949. Together they had 5 children, Joe, Helen, Irene, Jim and Diane. Aside from raising her family, and spending time with her grandchildren, Sophie enjoyed nothing more than tending to her garden. She is survived by her children; Joe, Jim (Marion), Diane Zarowski (Doug), as well as grandchildren Lisa (Nathan), Hailey, Miranda, and Ava. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Ignacy, and daughters Irene and Helen. A Private Family Service will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
