Obituary of Charles Adam Watt

WATT: CHARLES ADAM WATT It is with sadness that the family of Charles Adam Watt of Brandon announce that he passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the age of 91. Charlie was born on December 21, 1925 in Brandon, one of four children and the eldest son of Adam and Helen Watt. He received his education in Brandon and resided here his whole life with the exception of a two year period, when he served his country in Canada and overseas in the Canadian Navy (R.C.N.V.R.) At an early age, he began working for his father in the tailoring business and after his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he re-joined his father in the business known as Watt & Son Tailors. Upon the death in 1951 of Adam Watt, Charlie took over the business which then became known as Watt's Men's Wear Ltd. In 1948 he met Iris Lambert and on January 14, 1950 they were married. Charlie and Iris were blessed with three wonderful daughters – Janet, Gail and Beverly. He was dedicated to the business and family and became well known in the Brandon and Westman area. He enjoyed his customers and with many became known on a first name basis. In later years, Iris helped him in the business. After a successful 40 years in business he retired in 1986 and Charlie and Iris began a new life together travelling to England and Scotland twice to visit relatives, and also enjoyed trips to the Bahamas and Hawaii. They enjoyed many happy years in Palm Springs, California with many Brandon friends and new acquaintances. Charlie loved most sports, including duck hunting, golf and bowling. From the early 1950's to 1985 he participated and also sponsored teams in both the Major Men's 5 Pin and the Mercantile Men's 10 Pin Bowling Leagues. He especially loved the game of golf, and was one of the original members of the Brandon Golf and Country Club which relocated in 1948 to the present day location. He enjoyed the challenge of the game and the friendship that went with it. Fraternally he was a Mason and member of the Tweed Lodge No. 113, AF&AM, Royal Canadian Legion and United Commercial Travellers for over 60 years. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jim and wife Joan and sisters/brothers in law: Nancy (Ron Jardine) and Ellen (Howard Burden) and grandson David Skinner. Predeceased by his loving wife Iris, Charles is survived by his loving daughters: Janet (Noel) Lagarde and her sons: Jason (Julie) Skinner and grandchildren: Jayden and Abby; Chris McLean, and David's wife Dana and grandchildren Katie and Emily; Gail (Dave) Janz, and their children: Ashley, Amanda and Mark Charles; Beverly (Bruce) Born as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and abroad.
