Terry Mashinter

Obituary of Terry Mashinter

MASHINTER: On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, Terry Mashinter passed away in Brandon, Manitoba, at the age of 60, after a courageous and hard fought battle against cancer. Terry Guy William, the youngest of seven children, was born in Brandon, Manitoba on September 29, 1957 to Selby and Verna (Wilkinson) Mashinter. Growing up, Terry would go to the summer fairs when they came to Brandon, but not for the rides. He would spend his time with the farmers, admiring tractors and running errands for them and in return they would give him money. His Mom said that he always came home with more money than he left with. Terry attended Fleming, Earl Oxford and Neelin High School in Brandon. Terry worked at various jobs in Brandon including Metals Industries and Brownsteel but perhaps his passion for operating equipment is what kept him employed at the City of Brandon Public Works Dept. for 31 years. Affectionately known as Gomer by his co-workers, it is no surprise that Terry was one of the best grader operators the city has had and his reputation as such precedes him. Terry was an exceptionally talented hockey player. His skills earned him an opportunity to play for the Brandon Wheat Kings for 1-1/2 minutes until a knee injury prevented him from a possible career in the sport he excelled in. Joining an Old Timers Hockey League allowed him to continue to participate in the sport he loved and to make friendships that would last for years to come. Terry was a hard worker, passionate about everything he did and proud of his accomplishments. Whether it was a family member or a friend, he was always willing to lend a hand whenever the need arose. He was thoughtful in many ways and ``a wonderful son" to his Mom and Dad. He will lovingly be remembered by his son Greg (Patti) and daughter Lindsay affectionately known as Squirt (Ryan Childs), four grandchildren: Ty, Brayden, Caden and Ryker, his mother Verna, sisters Linda (Jack) Burns, Judy Stuart, Shelly Mashinter, Darlene (Jerry) Antonation and brother Garth (Rose), aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and the mother of his children Sherryl Mashinter. Terry was predeceased by his father Selby and infant brother Wayne. On behalf of Terry's family, we extend our most sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to Tami and Blake, Todd (Tammy) Ballingall, Jason (Karen) Ballingall, Ryan Jones and the Palliative Ward at the Assiniboine Centre. Your compassion and care provided to Terry was truly humbling and will forever be appreciated. Terry was blessed to have people like you in his life. Terry was an amazing father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his family. By Terry's request, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.
