Robbie Roberts

Obituary of Robbie Evan Arthur Roberts

ROBERTS: Robbie (Rob) Evan Arthur Roberts, 40, passed away at home on November 30, 2017. He was born August 7, 1977 to Barry and Carol (Douglas) and was the proud sibling of big brother Darwyn. Rob was raised in the Municipality of Oakland and attended Meadows, Earl Oxford and Crocus Plains High School. After graduating he ventured out west and settled for a time on Quadra Island, B.C. Rob returned home in 2000, shaved off his dreadlocks, put aside his didgeridoo and prepared to join the family farm. Working alongside his dad, uncles and cousins, Rob committed himself to the work and the land until his passing. In 2005 Rob met (Kristyn) Hope Salvador while visiting Sandy Lake. A year later he purchased his own half section of land and proudly welcomed Hope into the Roberts family. They wed at their home in 2007. Rob had a boisterous personality and presence – one that was both endearing and overwhelming. To those who knew him well, we knew a gentle giant, a man who loved reading, was fiercely loyal and committed to his values and was not afraid to speak his truth. Rob had a profound knowledge of and passion for the sport and history of boxing - a passion he eagerly shared with his friends and wife. He also relished in the outdoors – curious about plants and animals, space, and the vast wonder of the world around us. He ultimately desired to live a quiet life by the water where he could fish, grow his own food and live simply away from the competitive and unforgiving world he felt he was surrounded by. Rob's passing leaves a strange silence amongst all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Hope; parents, Barry and Carol; his niece, Kayla, and her son Epic; his nephew, Ryan; the Roberts and Douglas families; his wife's family and the unique cast of characters – the friends and acquaintances – who journeyed with him throughout his life. Rob was predeceased by his brother, Darwyn; uncle, Trevor Roberts; aunt, Edith "Edie" Douglas; and grandparents, Art and Neiges Douglas and Evan and Florence Roberts. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robbie's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
