This note comes rather late as just now (end of March) I saw John's name listed in the latest issue of RTAM's KIT. Condolences to Shirley and the family. Thanks for posting the memorial service. (I enjoyed the line about John wishing the Blue Jays could be there to let him down one more time.)
In my opinion John was a lifesaver as a high school teacher. He had a way of explaining what for me were difficult scientific concepts. He could make them understandable. Seeing how he was greeted at the last two high school reunions illustrated how so many students appreciated John's teaching.
I thank God for John's role in my education, and I'm glad that death is just a pause before families will be reunited once more, never more to part.

So sorry to hear this news. Mr. Russell was more than a teacher, he actually cared about you as an individual. So many good memories. Dear Shirley, Colin, Naomi, Hugh and families,
It was great sadness that we learned of John's passing. Our sincere condolences to all the family. Although Paul and I only knew John the few years we spent in Rivers, we feel as though we have known the Russell family for many years.
John was always friendly and interested in the community and church events. He was a true gentleman and will be missed by all who were privileged to know him.
We are sorry to miss being with you on the third, but we are presently in Houston.
