Obituary of Muriel Isabel Macpherson

MACPHERSON: Muriel "Mim" Isabel Macpherson passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Mim was born to Arthur and Janie Hunter in Brandon, Manitoba on March 28, 1928 and lived on the family farm, 2 miles down from the Hunter Homestead; it was a kindly welcome at the door for many others besides family. Life centered around farming, family, church and school. In 1937 the family moved to the Nesbitt District. They settled in quickly and were involved in many activities, especially sports. Mim always enjoyed school and attended St. Michael's Academy in Brandon, followed by Normal School training in Winnipeg. She taught for four years before getting married and loved "her children". She was an educator at heart, kind and soft spoken and always had time to answer a question. She fell for and later married Robert Macpherson on October 20, 1951 at St. Paul's Church in Brandon, MB. They lived on the Grand Valley road and enjoyed farming life. Mim raised her two children, Carol and Arthur, with patience and humility. Muriel was a devoted member of the United Church congregation, and especially enjoyed the hymns and all the friends she had there. Muriel enjoyed curling and in later years to watch it on TV. She was an avid card player, especially bridge. She loved to cook and putter in the kitchen. She always had something sweet on hand for tea time and her biscuits and buns will be missed by all. She enjoyed bible study, working with the UCW, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mim is survived by her children: Carol (Dan O'Callaghan) and Arthur (Wanda) Macpherson; grandchildren: Heather (Martin); August (Vickie); Megan (Ryan); Shea (Karen); Kelsey (Quentin) and Shelby (Chris); great-grandchildren: Jade; Lucas; Jane; Leah; Gauge; Beau; Keira and Kaden; sister Doreen Seafoot and brother Gord Hunter. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and brother William Hunter and her parents. A Celebration of Life was held at the Central United Church, 327- 8th Street, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., with a tea following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of one's choice. She is dearly missed by her loved ones but they take comfort in the fact that she is at peace with the Lord and reunited with her husband.
